The reason for starting ‘ ALPHAKEM Touch4Christchurch’
T4C is an initiative brought about to provide an outlet for those who have an affiliation to Christchurch and NZ who are now living abroad to be able to contribute toward the impact the recent earthquake has had on us all and to also serve as a way to help heal.
It has been uneconomical for some people to drop everything and go to Christchurch to help with the cleanup crew or be there for their friends and families or to spend hundreds of $$ on airfares and miss days off work when the money could be better spent on other ways to contribute.
A majority of my immediate family and friends reside in Christchurch so I know what it’s like to feel helpless when your loved ones have periodically lost their sense of safety and security.
Christchurch has been an integral part of my life, my children grew up and went to school there, I represented Canterbury in several sporting codes there, made great friendships and I always go back 2-3 times yearly to reconnect, so it seems only fitting that I give back to my community playing a sport that I have enjoyed over the years by establishing this initiative.
NZ cancelled their Touch Nationals this year due to the event being scheduled in Christchurch and the scheduled date falling a week after the earthquake.
The pain the Canterbury community and the Nation endured rightfully put the focus on the safety and wellbeing of its citizens and visitors so I know the immense appreciation the Canterbury Touch community will feel when they know what their VIC based Aussie and Kiwi comrades are doing in order to show our support here by playing touch for a great cause.
Here we get to play the fantastic game of Touch Rugby and help raise money for the Christchurch earthquake fund, the Japan Red Cross Society, the UCSA volunteers and to pay recognition to the Canterbury Touch community on behalf of the Melbourne community.
I have been lucky enough to have amazing support of people who jumped at the chance to give their time and efforts to this cause, so believe me this would have been extremely difficult to achieve without these people, please support their businesses and services on sponsor page.
THANKS FOR EVERYONES SUPPORT!!
